Details
The Shawnee Theatrical Arts Resource School (S.T.A.R.S.) offers a channel for a child’s natural gifts of imagination and role-playing. Through theatre arts children sharpen their creativity, improve their communication skills, gain self-confidence and learn the importance of teamwork. Above all, children enjoy becoming a part of the magic that they create on the stage.
Our program offers children an introduction to many aspects of theatre through stage movement, dance, music, art, creative games, role-play and scene study. Camp size is limited, please register as soon as possible.
As usual, our summer camps will reflect the shows produced during the summer season. Young performers will learn about acting, theatre etiquette, terminology, costuming and make up. The campers will then present a staged production! This special performance will correlate with the theme of each camp. If your camp has a public performance, tickets will need to be purchased for all who attend the performance. Please see each specific camp for more information.

This program has proven to be not only a very successful introduction to theater, but a practical training ground for the many children who fall in love with the stage during our camps. Many of young adults and children have auditioned for our Children's Theater and Main Stage programs after completing our camps. We feel it is an incredible, hands-on experience that will help your budding actor/actress fall in LOVE with theater!
Our S.T.A.R.S. camps offer young people an education based, fun-filled theater experience! Campers will be part of a performance at the end of the session. This is HANDS ON learning at its best! This program is overseen by Midge McClosky, Playhouse Executive Director and creator of the S.T.A.R.S. program. Our 2023 Camp Director will be assisted by our summer intern staff! The material for each week (the exercises, songs and scripts) will be customized to suit each unique blend of campers while exploring our theme. The campers will be creating their own shows for the exploration camps. Each week has a different theme and will focus on a variety of theatrical elements.
